This morning i stopped in at the salvation army and picked up a record by Tommy Garrett, it's called '50 Guitars Visit Hawaii'. I can't stop listening to it! Naturally, i went on a slide guitar youtube binge this evening and found, amongst a lot of bluesy crap, this...
I'm not sure how interested or impressed anyone will be with this video, but i thought it warranted sharing on the off chance one of you think it's as amazing as i do! Expect all copy haho songs from this day forward to feature hawaiian-style slide guitar.
Bloody good,
Joe

AWESOME PALS SWAPMEET!
In the van, just getting into cardiff, feels weird that Los Campesinos aren't here, but at least we got to see some other awesome pals last night.
Our tour is pretty good, the Texas -> Hull shock was scary, but now we're in Wales, and it's sunny! Wish you were here

Stood up.
Duncan and I were kinda supposed to have an Awesome Pals date tonight. Only, I'd not checked my phone to see if he'd replied to my offer. He had. I didn't know! I got a train back up to Aberdeen and got a sad sounding text message saying 'where are you!?' A short, sad story.

The Most Important News Article This Week
I trust everyone has lolled about this already?
Turns out he wasn't the first to derive humor from drawing a penis, can you spot the hidden Phallic image in this one?
The one below is rather terrifying, and if it's drawn from real life then the model should perhaps go into porn or become a sideshow attraction
But these all pale in comparison to the original "not to scale" penis drawings modelled here by Doug of Larkin Fame and Neil of Campesinos Fame from back in the day.
(Note the careful detail and artistic ingenuity which went into the drawings)

our awesome pals Sky Larkin at SXSW!!
sky larkin - Beeline (at sxsw) from Land Wolf on Vimeo.
Sorry Nestor, you're blocked out for a bunch of this.
We're all a bit mopey about having to leave texas tomorrow, but we've set ourselves challenges to take our minds off it - drink up all the beer / root beer / american cream soda, since we don't have room in our bags.

Ouch By Ouch Ouch
I have injuries from walking too much. The shame.... oh.. the shame... cry.
We played our last sxsw gig today. I ate too much mexican food beforehand and kind of flubbed around the stage like a sweaty bag of whales before rolling off in a hurry to catch Maps & Atlases (who were incredible). So far this has been the best week. I'm going to post lots of pictures soon, some of which are boss aces. Bumped into "Harkin Sky Larkin Harkin Harkin" during a secret Dinosaur Jr show, which was the most "Awesome Pals" moment of the week so far. Speaking of which, Calum and I walked for a good couple of miles to try and find some pizzeria Sky Larkin were playing at, but gave up after it became apparent that we were both idiots without functioning brains that can remember things. VEGGIE HOTDOG made up for it a little. Got stopped in the street by a man bearing free sunglasses who said we were this year's Los Campesinos, whatever that means. Radio sesh tomorrow and then it's GOODBYE SXSWXW!! X!W

FRUITLESSNESS
POST FOR POST'S SAKE:
Al and I went to Runcorn today. Have any of you ever been there? It's a bit like being in 1995.
Cheap 7"s:
Birdhouse In Your Soul, Don't Believe the Hype and She's On It.
I suspect a disgruntled girlfriend sold a cool kid's records to the junk shop. They had many guns for sale but no midi keyboards, which was the purpose of our visit.
My body is properly done-off.

Sorry to get all serious, but...
I'm sure some of you will be aware of the recent issue concerning The Sunday Express and an article written about the survivors of Dunblane.
Graham Linehan (of Father Ted / Black Books fame) has written a great article on the matter on his website, which can be found here;
If you could take the time to read the above, maybe even sign the petition as detailed in the article, and pass it on to your friends, it'd be appreciated. Never has a piece of writing angered me as much as the article in The Sunday Express.

All of you going to SXSW:
First off, and most importantly, I really, really hate you.
Second, you should totally go to some of Todd P's day parties. Last year Me and Neil spent most of our time there getting drunk and sunburnt and stalking Mika Miko. The shows are really great because they're totally free and you don't need wristbands to get in, and there are no age restrictions so you get to see ten year old kids freaking out to John Maus or something. This year it looks like Micachu and Telepathe and Vivian Girls and Casiotone and HEALTH and Abe Vigoda and Finally Punk and OHMYGODIAMSODEPRESSEDANDGOINGTOGOKILLMYSELFNOWYOUBASTARDS.
INFO: http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2009/03/todd_p_announce.php
EDIT: Ms. B's is at the top end of the big street that everything's on. Walk past the garage and under the bridge, then turn left after a couple of hundred yards and you're there.

SXSW
Having been away with Tomassi recently I hadn't actually had time for the notion that we're actually going to America to settle in yet. I think I've been more worried about missing out on a lot of SXSW by only being 20 and the apparently heavily enforced 21+ nature of the event.
HOWEVER. Having just had a chance to go through the line-up properly I've realised that basically everyone I want to go see (including other members of the Awesome Pals!!) are all doing all ages shows that don't conflict with when we're playing. Now the genuine sense of excitement has settled in and it feels amazing.

SPOTIF... huh?
Imagine my surprise hearing a disgustingly American music advert for a band called THE SCRIPT (as awful as you might think) sandwiched between 'Sweet Adeline' and 'Tomorrow Tomorrow' from the XO album by Elliott Smith! Imagine it! I almost papped my kecks out rotten. Terrifying and unnecessary. What does everyone think of Spotify? I can only find half of the stuff I want to hear and the rest of the stuff I want to hear is sitting in my music folder anyway. But, for playlist purposes, this is quite annoying. Can you mix early Sebadoh and Rocket From The Crypt with The Shangri-Las and Baden Powell? Not really. It's sort of like finding an old mouldy bag of tapes in your loft, plucking ten out at random and trying to make the most kick ass mixtape ever. Sort of. Not really.
Speaking of which, there's an Elliott Smith film playing on Pitchfork.tv this week. I love him and his silly little boo hoo crying songs! LOVE HIM.

I know this is a video of Scouting For Girls, but...
Watch the first five seconds of this. Eamon Holmes interrupts whatever her name is in the most pointless/weirdest/funniest way I can imagine. He also looks very drunk.

The best thing on the internet.
I'd like to make copy haho's first post about the best thing on the internet. The best thing on the internet is the Wikipedia entry for Richard Blackwood:
It's incredibly tragic. My favourite parts are where he claims to be 'good friends' with Will Smith - the man he copied so fucking much, and his critical AND commercial failure in general.

SXSW SENSATIONS!
I'm doing all my RSVPing for all the damn parties in Texas. I think I'm already drunk.

AWESOME PALS is a great place to look at words.
SO YEAH: THE HOT NEWS OF THE WEEK IS SOUTH BY SOUTHERN WINGNUT
I can't wait to get to SXSW because I feel we have a pretty good chance of making some amazing new friends, as well as making Glasvegas fans want to cry tears all down themselves (and not in a good, 'Daddy's Gone' sort of way, i mean a proper, earth-shuddering stop-hitting-me-you-bad-boy sort of way). I think it might literally explode into a thousand sounds of fun onstage. Here's hoping. We will give it our best shot (((We might be too drunk))) LOOK OUT STEVE AUSTIN! I am also dead excited to see various bands perform for my own little ears (Mika Miko, Maps & Atlases, Women etc.) including fellow AWESOME PALS Sky Larkin. I am really sad that fellow AWESOME PALS Johnny Foreigner and Los Campesinos aren't going, as Gareth points out below. That would have just made it perfecto. Maybe next time we can hire a bus yeah?
I don't eat meat, so I think i may perish. GOODBYE.
